The Specialist Vetting Checklist.

You're meeting a specialist about your child. Five yes/no signals tell you whether to keep going.

Did the specialist show you their actual credentials, not just claim them?

Did they ask for or offer a real working diagnosis, not just a vague label?

Could they explain their methodology in plain language, without jargon, in under two minutes?

Did they give you a timeline with a recheck point?

Did they name what success looks like in specific behaviour, not "we'll see how it goes"?

Verdict

Three questions to ask on the next call

  1. What does month three look like if this is working? What does it look like if it isn't?
  2. What's the assessment you'd repeat in six weeks, and what would you expect to see different?
  3. What would make you tell me to stop or change direction?
